USRAC mfg in New Haven CT, approximately 1996-97 manufacturing period, 'Classic' action design (the re-introduced 'pre-64' design), successor to the 'African - Super Grade' from WRA (pre-64 & post-64).
In mint condition they seem to run between $1000.00 & $1200.00 (and up) asking price on the auctions (don't know what they actually realize). Winchester XTR's just don't bring much across the board and never did!!! You don't really have a Winchester unless you have a model 70 with 'big claw extractor', 3 position safety, control round fed magazine.all this known as the Pre-64 Action or 'Classic' etc. That's what I used to think until I got my XTR Featherweight. It's one of those put together under Olin ownership.
It's well fit.very good bolt to receiver fit and excellent wood to metal fit. It's a.270 win. And will put 3 shots in an inch at 100 yds. I've never had any problems with it and it's a nice rifle to carry and shoot.
Don't get me wrong, I like the pr e-64's but I just can't find anything wrong with the XTR Featherweight I have even though it's a push feed. When you really think about it, the push feeds have more meat on the receiver ring.
I have a prewar 70 that has a very thin right receiver ring wall where they seem to have cut too much out for extractor clearance. Kinda makes me wonder sometimes when I look at it. It's currently barreled in.308 Win.
